I was in Amsterdam this week to do some research for a story I am writing. I had the privilege to be able to attend a lecture at the department of philosophy of the UVA university, where my main character, “Sarah”, studies. A couple of minutes before it started, the sky turned a certain type of blue outside. Some painters spend their whole life looking for this colour. I am still not sure why exactly it moved me so much, but it has to do with the way things started to come together, after all the work I had done so far.
For the first time in this long writing process, I was testing the fruits of my imagination with reality. Not with the aim to be able to relate a perfectly ‘real’ reality in my mainly fictional story. But to get inspired. To see where my imagination and reality would clash. Or where they perhaps slide inside of each other like those Russian matryoshka dolls.
I find it too soon to share more about the story itself. But I wanted to tell you this already.
As some will notice I have removed all the older posts. Since I have a blog (2008) I do this every now and then. Sometimes it’s a good feeling to be able to start anew. We’ll see where this new version brings us.
Last but not least I would like to add that I have been welcomed incredibly generously at the university. I feel enriched.
